cakes and flowers

the past few days, i've been thinking alot about cakes and flowers. these are the two things in my wedding preps that i'd realistically like to be able to fix this month.
cake
i've already spoken with alex franco last tuesday, and we set our meeting on august 26, thursday. such a niiiice fellow! he asked me to call at about 9pm, and we spent quite some time on the phone. he had so many funny and interesting stories to tell, and i had such a good time! now i know why w@wies who have availed of his services have nothing but praises for this man. you just gotta love him! and of course, they say he makes beautiful AND yummy cakes.

i've been trying to get in touch with joanna of angelic blooms, but i can't seem to get a hold of her. i'd like to get a quotation on the flowers for my ento already. hmmmm. anyhoo, as it turns out, schmuck's friend randy has a family friend who is into the flower business and he can probably get it for us at a VERY low price. we're keeping our fingers crossed, and we'll maybe find out tonight.
i've been playing around with some ideas in my head. at first, i wanted all my flowers to be yellow cause i think it's a very happy color. then i realized it takes a certain shade of yellow to be able to pull off a "happy" effect (otherwise, it just becomes tacky). so i decided to make all my flowers white. serene...elegant...um, virginal...um, pure. but white flowers on a white cake? hmmm. then i decided that i'd like all my flowers to be calla lillies, regardless of the color. ah, beautiful! i just looove calla lillies!
here are some ideas i found on the net for our wedding cake. simple, but definitely elegant. and with alex making it, dee-lish!
